Hanwell is a design-focused software suite. Its core product is Hanwell Sites — a section-based website and portfolio builder that lets you create and publish a well-designed site without touching code. Alongside Sites, Hanwell offers Standard, an AI design review tool, and Gallery, a curated collection of well-designed work. Everything is built around one standard: good design, applied consistently.
Sites is a section-based website builder for portfolios and personal sites. You assemble your site by choosing and arranging sections — headers, image layouts, about blocks, galleries, contact forms, and more — then fill in your content, choose a colour palette, and select a typeface. Layout, spacing, and structure are handled by Hanwell. When you're ready, you publish with one click.
The builder has three panels. On the left you manage your sections — add, remove, and reorder them. In the centre a live preview shows exactly how your site looks, with a toggle between desktop and mobile views. On the right a context panel lets you edit the content and settings for the selected section. Changes appear in the preview as you make them. Nothing is public until you explicitly hit publish.
Sites currently includes over 20 section types covering the full range of a portfolio or personal site: hero headers, title sections, about blocks, image layouts, text sections, project galleries, contact forms, and dividers — each with multiple curated variants. You choose how to combine them and what content goes in. Typography and spacing are preset and consistent across all sections.
All Hanwell sites are published to a subdomain on hanwell.site — for example, yourname.hanwell.site. You choose your subdomain when you create your site. On the free plan that's your address. Pro subscribers can connect a custom domain (such as yourname.com) pointing to their Hanwell site via a CNAME record.
Yes, on the Pro plan. You'll need a domain registered with any registrar of your choice. Once you add a CNAME record pointing to Hanwell, your site serves at your custom domain with SSL handled automatically. Free accounts are limited to their *.hanwell.site subdomain.
No. The entire builder is visual. You choose sections, fill in content, and publish. There is no HTML, CSS, or configuration involved at any step. The design sensibility is built into the platform — your job is to bring the content.
Yes. The centre panel of the builder is a live preview that updates as you edit. You can toggle between desktop and mobile views at any time. Your site is not publicly accessible until you explicitly publish it.
Free accounts get two published websites on a *.hanwell.site subdomain, with Hanwell branding in bottom right of the page. You also get five complimentary design reviews through Standard. Gallery is free to browse. No credit card is required to sign up.
Pro gives you unlimited sites with no Hanwell branding, the ability to connect a custom domain to each site, unlimited Standard design reviews, and full Gallery access including filtering, search, and the ability to submit work. Pro is billed monthly or annually — current pricing is at hanwell.studio.
Pro subscribers can create and publish as many sites as they need — there is no cap. Free accounts are limited to two published sites.
When you cancel, your account reverts to the free plan at the end of your billing period. Your oldest two sites stay published on their *.hanwell.site subdomains. Any additional sites are unpublished (not deleted), and connected custom domains are removed. Your content stays in the builder and is accessible if you resubscribe.
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time — no calls, no forms. Your subscription stays active through the period you've paid for and won't renew after you cancel.
Gallery is a curated collection of well-designed work — websites, visuals, objects, spaces, and tools. It's not a feed; everything in it earns its place. Free to browse. Pro subscribers get filtering, search, and the ability to submit work for consideration.
Standard is an AI design review tool. Upload a design — a website screenshot, branding, logo, or photo — and get back a structured critique: what's working, what isn't, and specific fixes. Five reviews are included free; unlimited with Pro.
